About the firm

Experience earned aboard, ashore and inside the machinery space.

Grubb Marine Surveying & Consulting is led by Justin Grubb, an IIMS Certified Marine Surveyor and Qualified Marine Chief Engineer whose career has encompassed vessel construction, yacht operations, shipyard management and technical investigation.

Thirty years of practical marine engineering perspective.

Justin’s marine career began in Durban, South Africa, with Charter Cats from 1996 to 1999. His work included vessel construction and the development and fabrication of moulds for the Prowler Cat, culminating in the launch of the first Prowler Cat.

He subsequently served aboard large motor yachts as a marine engineer and chief engineer, developing first-hand experience of the machinery, systems, maintenance disciplines and operational decisions that determine vessel reliability.

That operational background expanded into the management and oversight of major-yacht refit projects involving vessels up to 70 metres. Today, it informs every survey, casualty investigation, refit consultation and expert assignment undertaken by the firm.

The value of experience is not the number of years alone. It is knowing which physical details matter, how systems interact and where the records do not agree with the vessel.
